My name is Quoya and I am a TEXTILE artist from Northern California.

It’s NICE TO MEET YOU, here’s a bit about me

I credit my grandma with my love for knitting. Throughout my childhood, she was always working on a project and creating gifts for loved ones. In the spring of 2020, as the world began to shut down around us, I was looking for something to pour my creativity into. I picked up my long-forgotten needles and began to knit. Over the years, I have expanded my offerings to include sewn pieces as well.

Sharing my knit and sewn work has become one of my favorite ways to create, experiment, and connect with people. I love making pieces that spark a reaction—work that reflects my zest for life:

PLAYful, INSPIRING, unexpected, and a little bit weird.

Whether through bright colors, whimsical designs, playful details, or messages that make you stop and think, I see clothing as an opportunity to express personality, make people smile, and speak up about the things you care about.

Sustainability is at the heart of how I create. As both a maker and an entrepreneur, I feel strongly about acknowledging the enormous amount of waste produced by the fashion and textile industries. That’s why I source my yarn and fabric exclusively from second-hand and thrift stores, giving forgotten materials a second life and keeping them out of the waste stream.

Ugly Bird is my way of celebrating unconventional slow fashion. Everything is handmade by me, one piece at a time, and no two pieces are exactly alike. I want my work to add a little more color, spunk, and personality to your wardrobe while challenging the idea that sustainable fashion has to be boring or serious. And because I believe creativity can be a form of action,

Depending on the piece, donations may support organizations such as Local Futures, PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), One Ocean, and The Nature Conservancy.
